How to bet in South Africa without a bank account

2026-10-26 00:00 · 2 min read

Many South Africans do not have a bank card, or do not want to link one to a betting site. The good news is that putting money in is easy. Taking winnings out is where people get stuck, so read this before you deposit.

Putting money in without a bank

Most licensed bookmakers take prepaid vouchers bought for cash:

  • 1Voucher, confirmed by 1Voucher at Hollywoodbets and Easybet.
  • OTT Voucher, confirmed by OTT at Betway, Hollywoodbets, LottoStar, YesPlay and Supabets.
  • A bookmaker's own voucher, sold at some tills.

Our guides on 1Voucher and OTT and Blu vouchers show the steps.

Getting winnings out: the hard part

Vouchers only go one way. When you win, the bookmaker has to pay you, and the law says they must know who you are first. Expect to:

  • Verify your account (FICA) with your ID, and sometimes proof of address.
  • Use a payout method in your own name. This is usually a bank account. Some bookmakers offer other options, such as sending money to a cellphone to collect as cash at an ATM or till. What each one offers changes, so check its withdrawal page.

If you have no bank account, look at a bookmaker's withdrawal options before you deposit, not after you win. A basic bank account or a cellphone-based account can make this much easier.

Traps to avoid

  • Someone offering to withdraw for you. Never give your login to another person or let them use their bank account. You can lose the money and your account.
  • Borrowing to bet. Read betting voucher advances first.
  • Unlicensed sites. A site with no South African licence may not pay you at all. See is betting legal in South Africa.

Funding without your own money

You can also earn a voucher. On Mocash, surveys and offers are free, and you can withdraw as a 1Voucher, OTTVoucher, Blu Voucher or Hollywoodbets voucher. Earnings are small and not guaranteed, but you are not spending your own cash.

Bet only what you can lose

Betting is for adults 18 and older. Only bet money you can afford to lose, never money meant for rent, food or transport, and never chase a loss. If betting stops being fun, the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation runs a free, confidential helpline: 0800 006 008.
